With 32ncalves on the ground we are just over half done for the season. Last week was extremely cold here (-30 degrees celcius windchill) so the poor little guys had a rude awakening to the world. Lots of straw and momma's love keep the newborns warm but when the temperature dips this low a little extra protection is needed for the ears.
It looks like it is going to be a bull year, of the 32 calves so far, 22 are male! 14 of the calves are purebred angus and 10 of those are male!

This heifer was the first cal sired by
Holtkamp Cattle Company's bull Predator. Her dam is a purebred angus cow.

With AI calving near complete, our natural bred matings are starting to arrive. This In Focus granddaughter had the first purebred calf from our new herdsire Chico Xplosive 8X. A very nice heifer calf came at 1:30 today.

10 calves on the ground so far, with 8 bulls and 2 heifers. There are Eye Candy, Mercedes Benz, and Stocker sired crossbred calves and a Soo Line Kodiak 9194 purebred bull calf and a Red Six Mile Sakic purebred red bull calf. We have also had the first calf out of our latest herdsire Chico Xplosive 8x.
