After one of the coldest and wettest July's on record, the weather finally turned in August and we were able to catch up here on the farm. First cut was finally finished the second week of the month (latest ever) and we have a little second cut to complete this week. The organic spelt destined for Speerville flour mill was harvested on the 19th and we started the barley and straw on the 27th only to have Hurricane Irene arrive today with her heavy rain and wind putting a halt to combining for a couple of days.
The angus show at Old Home Week was very successful and congratulations to all participants. Results and sponsors can be found
here. Shows were held in Truro, NS and St. Mary's, NB this weekend as well.
We weaned some calves last week to show at the NB Beef Expo in Sussex, NB the last weekend in Sept. Plans are to take a cow/calf pair, 2 yearling heifers, bull calf and a crossbred heifer calf sired by Eye Candy. We are proud to sponsor Champion Showman for the Junior show at the Beef Expo.
August really is the dog days of summer!!
